Keep your home secure as the evenings draw in

Alert message sent 28/10/2021 12:38:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

The evenings are already starting to draw in and the clocks go back on  Saturday night this weekend, on 31 October, meaning many of us will be returning home from work or school in the dark from next week.
Darker evenings can give burglars the opportunity to easily see which properties are unoccupied. Here are a few things you might like to consider to lessen the chance of your home being targeted:
  • Invest in a timer light switch
  • Keep valuables out of sight
  • Lock your doors and windows, making sure the key is removed from the lock.
  • If you have a burglar alarm make sure you set it
  • If you leave your home unattended whilst going  away on holiday, don't post details of your holiday on social media
  • Also look out for your neighbours' homes, especially when they are not at home and call the police if you see anything suspicious on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
